Whichever type of funeral you choose, I can create a ceremony for you, filled with personal touches that will honour the person that has passed away in a way that is unique to them. No two people are the same so neither should two funerals need to be the same.

No two funerals need to be the same

To be able to do that, we will work closely together.

Let me explain how we can do that.

  • You can contact me direct via my website, or you may have been referred to me by your Funeral Director.
  • I will give you a call to arrange a meeting.
  • We can meet somewhere safe and comfortable to chat about who this person was and what they were known for. Usually this will take place at your home, but it doesn’t have to be.
  • When we are together I want to give you the space, freedom and creativity to share the memories you have. I am not a clock watcher, so you can take as long as you need.
  • We can have a look at what type of ceremony you would like, funeral, cremation, or a celebration of life.
  • From your memories I will then create the story you would like me to tell your friends and family. Together we will make it a day to remember.

Funeral Ceremony

About Funeral Ceremonies

This is most likely to be a service at a crematorium or at a chosen venue or outdoor location, followed by the burial. Generally, these have a limited timeframe. A crematorium service for example takes approximately 20 minutes. The service can contain a few favourite pieces of music as well as tributes or eulogies.

If this is what you have chosen to do this is how we will work together.

  • We will arrange to meet.
  • We will use this time for you to tell me about your loved one. To share memories that we can use to tell their story at the funeral.
  • Next, I will take away all the information and create the script. This may take a few days. I will email a copy to you. This is so you can check the important details such as names and dates, but also to make sure you are happy with the overall feel and contents.
  • If you want to write your own eulogy/tribute or choose music, you should use this time to do that.
  • I will be here for you on the phone or email if you have any questions or changes.
  • On the day, I will arrive early at the venue, to ensure everything is as it should be.
  • And finally, a printed copy of the script will be sent to you a few weeks after the funeral.

Celebration of Life Ceremony

About Celebration of Life Ceremonies

If you are choosing this option, you will have a lot more freedom to decide on what it will look like, where it will take place and how long it will last. Usually, a Celebration of Life will take place after the body has been cremated or buried (but it doesn’t have to be). For example, you could hold this kind of ceremony when you inter the ashes, or on an anniversary date.

If this is what you have chosen to do, then this is what I can offer you.

  • We will arrange to meet.
  • We will use this time for you to tell me about your loved one. To share memories that we can use to tell their story at the ceremony.
  • We can have a chat about how much involvement you (your family and friends) would like in creating and delivering the ceremony.
  • We can go through the arrangements of everything you would like to do on the day.
  • Next, I will take away all the information you have shared with me and create the script. This may take a few days. I will email a copy to you. This is so you can check the important details such as names and dates, but also to make sure you are happy with the overall order of things.
  • If you want to write your own eulogy/tribute, choose music, or arrange any other activity, you should probably start to think about this now.
  • I will be here for you on the phone or email if you have any questions or changes.
  • On the day, I will arrive early at the venue, to ensure everything is as it should be and to run things through with you, so you can relax and enjoy this celebration of your loved one.
  • And finally, a printed copy of the script will be sent to you a few weeks after the ceremony.

Planning your own funeral

About Planning your own funeral

Whatever the reason, some people would like to plan their own funeral. And why not? When it comes to creating a true life story, who knows your life better than you.

If this is what you have chosen to do, then this is what I can offer you.

  • We will arrange a meeting to chat about the type of funeral you prefer, what kind of ceremony you would like and how we can make it memorable.
  • We can have a chat about how much involvement you would like others to have in delivering the ceremony.
  • We will also use this time for you to tell me about yourself. To share memories that we can use to tell your story at the funeral.
  • Next, I will take away all the information and create the script. This may take a few days. I will email a copy to you or arrange a follow up visit to discuss it. This is so you can check the important details such as names and dates, but also to make sure you are happy with the overall feel and contents.
  • If you want to write your own eulogy/tribute or choose music, you could use this time to think about that. I can be on hand to make a record of your words and choices.
  • I will be here for you, if you have any questions or changes.
  • On the day, I will arrive early at the venue, to ensure everything is as it should be, and your family and friends are looked after.
  • If you would like your family to have a copy of the script after the ceremony, I can arrange that for you.

When to start planning

When to start planning.

Am I too young to think about my funeral?

Absolutely not!

I am happy to arrange a visit with you and your partner (and others) to talk about your options and what you think you might like. Often, we don’t really know what our family wants when it comes to funerals. You may all have different views. Burial, cremation, natural eco-funeral, somber, upbeat, things you would like to happen, things you absolutely don’t want to happen. There’s lots to talk about. Why not do this when you are not overcome with sadness, when you can talk about these things and have a friendly discussion with each other.

So why not invite me for a cuppa, or a glass of something, so we can sit and relax and have a chat and see where it takes us. I have plenty of ideas and suggestions to make you think outside the box.

I will take note of your ideas and wishes and compile them into a document for you to keep. It may not be the final product and you may change your mind as your life moves on, but it will be a starter for ten. Now that the ice has been broken on this subject, you may find it easier to discuss it again with your family (and friends) as and when you feel the need.
